Rural Opportunity Zone Benefits (ROZ)
Kansas law designates 77 counties in Kansas as Rural Opportunity Zones (ROZ), providing a 100 percent state income tax waiver for up to five years and repayment of up to $3,000 per year ($15,000 maximum) in outstanding student loans.
Up to $15,000 in Student Loan Repayment
New County residents may receive up to $3,000 per year for five years towards repayment of their outstanding student education loans. To qualify the new resident must:
Relocate from outside Ottawa County
Maintain full-time residence in Ottawa County
Have obtained an Associates, Bachelor or higher degree in accumulating the loan debt
Have an outstanding education loan balance in your name
State Income Tax Credit for New County Residents
New County residents who have not lived in Kansas in the last five years may be eligible for a credit for 100% of any state income tax they may owe Kansas for the next five consecutive tax years that they reside in a Rural Opportunity Zone county.
