Minneapolis, Kansas, population 2,032, is the County seat and agri-business center of Ottawa County.
The community provides essential services needed for comfortable living and daily needs, including schools, grocery store, hospital, medical and dental clinic, pharmacy, optometrists, dining, motel, banks, realtors, hardware and lumber, automotive legal and accounting services. The largest employer in the city is G L Huyett, a manufacturer and distributor of non-threaded fasteners that has been in business in Minneapolis since 1906, making it the second oldest continually-operating business in the state. The school district, Ottawa County, nursing home, hospital and banks are among the other major employers. Minneapolis is home to many who work outside of the County, primarily in Salina, a regional retail and financial center less than thirty minutes south via U.S. I-70.
