Trash Pickup
Ottawa County does not mandate (though the City of Bennington does) residential collection of household trash solid waste.  Any residence or business may hire a private collector, or haul their own trash to the dumpsters at the Ottawa County Landfill, or directly to the Salina Landfill.

  • Monday        –  Bennington and vicinity
    *the City of Bennington requires participation in weekly trash pickup
  • Tuesday       –  Minneapolis
  • Wednesday  –  Wells, and sometimes Minneapolis
  • Thursday      –  Culver & Tescott
  • Friday           –  Delphos
  • Rural residential collection is every other week.

The Ottawa County
​Solid Waste Department
is in charge of the Landfill.

Every business and homeowner (or landlord) is assessed an annual fee that appears on the personal property tax bill for maintaining a waste disposal system.  This includes the County Landfill and transportation of household trash to the regional landfill in Saline County. ​​

County Landfill     
​542 Kiowa Rd. (Section 12 of Henry Township ... approx., 7 miles west of Minneapolis / approx., 5.5 miles SE of Ada)

  • Open Monday - Fridays 8:30a to 12p, then 1p to 4p  |  Saturday, 8a to 1p
  • Observed Holidays for the Landfill are published in the Minneapolis Messenger.
  • Dump fees for residential trash are waived twice a year, the first week of May and the first week of October for the County-wide Cleanup as announced
  • Special tire collections are conducted annually, as announced.
Driving directions: 
  • From Minneapolis  –  go one mile north on 120th Rd . . . turn west on Mulberry Road for 7 miles . . . turn south on 50th Road and go two miles to Kiowa Road.  The landfill is 1/2 mile east of 50th Rd & Kiowa Rd.

  • From Hwy K18  –  turn north at K-18 Hwy and 40th Rd. . . . after 7 miles, turn east on Kiowa Road and go 1.5 miles to the landfill entrance.
Items for the Landfill should be sorted; save time and sort before you arrive!
  • Transporting waste that is not bagged must be covered or tied down to prevent loss of material along roads.
  • Household trash should be bagged and put in trash bins located inside the entrance. 
  • There is a place for metal and a place for wood. 
Construction / demolition material and household furniture fees:
  • $34.50 per ton with a minimum charge of $10.00. 
​Tires fees: 
  • $3.00 for car tires up to 15"- $4.00 on the rim; $6.00 for tires from 16.0" to 20.0"- $8.50 on the rim; $15.00 for any tire 21" to 38"- $25.00 on the rim;  any tire 39" and over, $40.00-$60.00 on the rim.
 Hazardous waste products are NOT accepted at the Landfill.
