Have you noticed the sign for Charlie’s Car Wash near the southwest corner of Greenwich and Kellogg, which indicates that the chain plans to reopen there in 2024?
A spokesman for the Salina company named Marcia Stephenson remarked, “That sign has been a humorous thing.”
Have You Heard? stated back in the summer of 2016 that the Green Lantern Car Wash, as it was then called, would ultimately return on the corner, but it would take some time.Construction along Kellogg forced the business to close, and a second Green Lantern opened up on the east side of North Rock Road near the K-96 off ramp.
The business subsequently renamed Green Lantern as Charlie’s Car Wash, and starting in 2019 or so, it has been changing the sign next to Kellogg and Greenwich with the new address. The sign is changed annually, although the company hasn’t been rebuilt each year.
Regarding attempting to share an inaugural year, Stephenson recalled thinking, “You cannot do that.”This is due to the fact that events frequently occur for all firms, even in the absence of a pandemic.
In this instance, the initial cause was the pandemic. Due of the epidemic, Charlie’s was working on a car wash in Topeka that took far longer than anticipated.Stephenson stated that the corporation needed to lease two new car washes in Lenexa and Overland Park before moving on to the new Wichita car wash.
Stephenson stated that although the current sign indicating the new car wash will open in 2024, it is not the reality. The business obtained a tiny right-of-way during the previous month or two, “which helped us square that property up,” according to Stephenson.
Additionally, research on storm water are being conducted, and eventually, construction on infrastructure will begin. When the weather and other stores don’t interfere, the construction project should be completed in around nine months from the time the company starts moving dirt in the spring.
Stephenson remarked, “I really hope that sucker is opening next.”
The new car wash will have a dual tunnel where cars will travel along a conveyor belt while receiving standard outside car washing and interior cleaning.
Stephenson remarked, “It’s more modern.”
Patrons have the option to sit in a customer waiting area or stroll along and observe the operation. It moves quickly, according to Stephenson. “Just watching it happen is enjoyable.”
